The Power of Movement in Labor: Supporting Your Body and Baby
One of the most important and often overlooked aspects of labor is movement.
Your body is not designed to labor lying still. Movement helps your baby find the best position for birth and can make labor more efficient and comfortable.
Approaches like Spinning Babies and the Miles Circuit focus on balance, gravity, and movement.
Spinning Babies three Balances include:
Balance the pelvis through body alignment
Create space for baby to move
Use gravity to encourage descent
The Mile Circuit includes positions such as:
Open-knee chest
Exaggerated side-lying
Upright movement
These positions can:
Help reposition baby
Encourage labor progression
Reduce discomfort
As a midwife, I encourage mothers to listen to their bodies. Instinctive movement is powerful.
You don't need to "perform" in labor.
You need to move through it.
Trust your body, it was made for this work.
